How Buy first works

Buy first answers one question: which watch should you buy next?

Each watch you want gets a score out of 10. With the standard mix:

A $500 watch rated 7.6 goes ahead of a $1,500 watch rated 8.0. The $1,500 watch would need to rate above about 8.2 to come first.

A watch needs a price and at least one rating to be included, and never your Grails or watches you own. If you set a buying limit in Account, watches priced at or above it stay out too. You can change the mix in Account, under Advanced.

What's a Grail?

A Grail is a dream watch: one you admire for the long run, kept apart from what you'd actually buy next.

Two quick questions

Above what price is a watch a someday watch instead of one you'd buy soon?

Watches above this stay out of Buy first. You can still keep them, and mark your dream watches as Grails.

How much should each part count in Buy first?

Personal-fit lens & buy-first order

weights, rules, and the value model

Eight editable weights. They recalculate the fit score live and never overwrite your manual rank.

Buy-first order

Build variety under $3,000. Buy first includes only candidates with a saved purchase price below $3,000. Grails and watches beyond the current budget stay in the database with their own tiers, outside the buying calculation. Your rank is compared only within the attainable list.

Buy the cheaper one first when the ratings are close. Each attainable candidate gets a quality score from your rank, personal fit, and execution, then loses points for price. The value weight controls the price penalty. Existing weights are preserved.

Ratings by factor (1–10, optional)

Researched watches come with these. When a watch has any, they take the place of your suits-you rating in Buy first.

Weights must total 100. They recalculate personal-fit scores immediately and never rewrite your manual rank.

Research a watch

Researches the watch on the web, with sources, and adds it to your list unranked. It uses 1 credit, spent only if the report saves. Usually one to three minutes.
